A story of strength and struggle and heroism.

(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 14, 2019 ) Outskirts Press—the fastest-growing, full-service self-publishing and book marketing company—is pleased to announce new fiction by Linda E. Warren: Calico—The Wild Child of the Delta. The novel is set in a rural Mississippi Delta town in the early 1950s and features a young woman with Cherokee ancestry.

Calico Beaumont—whose ethnicity is as varied as the colors of calico fabric—is a fiercely independent child who spends more time in the woods than helping her mother at home. She spends her days exploring the back country with her bow, arrows and dogs…until one day when she discovers a cave that contains human bones. And while Calico puzzles over the mysterious bones, new neighbors arrive.

The Fullers, who have moved in across the lake from Calico and her family, were exiled from a neighboring county due to petty crimes, a reputation of threats to women, and causing brawls in public places—and their ilicit nature is exposed when one of the Fullers tries to kidnap Alice, Calico’s half-sister.
Calico is a family saga that chronicles the conflicts that rock Calico and her family in their Mississippi Delta town in the early 1950s. From criminal activities, overt racism, and two shocking mysteries, the novel also touches on themes of friendship and family relationships.
