Announcing the Release of Hilarious New Children's Book by Nancy Peek Youngdahl: My Nana Was A Free-Range Kid, Published by Outskirts Press

By -

Beautifully illustrated children’s book narrated by an eight-year-old great-granddaughter chronicles her Nana’s “free-range” adventures in the 1940s and ’50s.

(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 07, 2018 ) Denver, CO and Raleigh, NC – Outskirts Press—the fastest-growing, full-service self-publishing and book marketing company—is pleased to announce the release of Nancy Peek Youngdahl’s new juvenile fiction about her childhood: My Nana Was A Free-Range Kid.

In the 1940s and 1950s, children were allowed to run free, play outside and use their imaginations without parents constantly hovering over them and fearing for their safety. In her own small town in North Carolina, with very little traffic and neighbors who actually knew each other, Nana was no exception to the free-range kid phenomenon. But as an outrageously mischievous child left to her own devices, she sure got into some amazing and hilarious adventures. It was a glorious time to be a child!

Both of Nana’s parents worked and babysitting was not an option, so she and her brother were often unsupervised and regularly wreaked innocent havoc. There were very few televisions in homes and no computers or cellphones that could occupy a child’s time, so Nana and her brother found ways to entertain themselves. Nana’s stories as told to her great-grandchildren are all true. She relates how her family and neighbors survived in spite of her and is quick to let her loved ones know what not to do! Nana says if she had lived as a child today, she’d probably have been taken to a juvenile home!

My Nana Was A Free-Range Kid is a valuable children’s book and encourages respect of elders which is beneficial today even if those good old days were “weird”. You will love 8-year-old Adalee’s way of story-telling and her expressions of love for her great-grandparents and the contagious joy for the stories she shares. That joy brings honor to our older generation. The stories tie in many different lessons in what “not to do” and the themes throughout the book will surely hold imaginations long beyond the last page. Family history is a very valuable commodity! It is not often that we see a children’s book with content of substance.
