(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 21, 2018 ) Outskirts Press—the fastest-growing, full-service self-publishing and book marketing company—is pleased to announce the release of Shattered Dreams at Rainbow’s End: A Novel about Inheritance and Infidelity, a novel based on real events by Christopher Horne, PhD.

Drawn from real life, Shattered Dreams at Rainbow’s End is the story of a World War II hero, Donald, a foot soldier who returns to North Carolina, meets the Depression-born Mary, and marries her. They have three children, and Donald dreams of having his family all sitting around the fire at Christmastime in the Rainbow’s End farmhouse. But Donald dies tragically in midlife before seeing his dream fulfilled, leaving his widow vulnerable and in despair. The multifaceted emotional drama surrounding Mary’s subsequent two husbands follows.

Mary’s second husband’s brief five-year presence and leadership help get the family back on track, but her third husband, Asher, can do little to strengthen the family’s moral fabric. Despite his affection for Mary, his luxurious lifestyle and personal wealth matter more to him than family values, and eventually the family’s dream is shattered.

Donald’s children grow up plagued by greed and infidelity and, despite their apparent success, fall well short of their parents’ expectations. With the aid of accomplices, the children each break at least one rule in the moral and ethical codes of family and inheritance, adding to the tragedy. But the patriarch soldier’s legacy of family values lives on with the divine intervention in his youngest son’s family. The novel concludes with Lessons Learned, stressing the importance of estate planning, ethics and Christianity.

“Informative: psychologically, legally, historically…shows passion and a great will to overcome.” – Coach B., English teacher and Hall of Fame wrestling coach
“Very interesting story with spiritual implications, like the Bible verse in Jeremiah 33:3: ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’” – Hyrine O.
