Mississippi author recounts working in war-torn Afghanistan, surviving a horrific explosion, and coming to terms with a dysfunctional past in new memoir.

(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 18, 2018 ) Outskirts Press—the fastest-growing, full-service self-publishing and book marketing company—is pleased to announce the release of a thoroughly unique and entertaining new memoir, Sleep Walking Out of Afghanistan: Walking It All Back, by Harold Phifer.

Phifer’s story begins on a beach in Thailand, where the author lives a carefree life with no worries or drama…until he meets a fellow retiree who forces him to delve into his past. Through his conversations with Dylan, Phifer recounts events that he had buried deep below the surface—stories that are both horrifying and hilarious.

“I was caught in the middle of the biggest vehicle explosion to ever hit Afghanistan, and while dealing with the injuries, my mind kept spinning out of control from horror to horror and to my dysfunctional past,” Phifer explains. “Dealing with what I had viewed as an imminent death helped to bring closure to where I was once open and exposed.”

Sleep Walking Out of Afghanistan touches on the sad, the shocking, and the schizophrenic behaviors that surrounded Phifer until later into his adulthood—stories eloquently told with humor and insight.
