New memoir is a must-read for combat veterans and their loved ones.

(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 05, 2018 ) Outskirts Press—the fastest-growing, full-service self-publishing and book marketing company—has just released a new memoir. Healing the Wounds of War: My Personal Journey by Amnon Ben-Yehuda was written to share the author’s healing journey with other combat veterans who are still struggling secretly in silence with their demons.
Amnon Ben-Yehuda, an Israeli native, joined the Haganah underground at age 13, and at 17 he joined the Palmach, the shock troop branch of the Haganah. After miraculously surviving a bullet to the head in 1948 at the historic Nebbi Yusha battle in Israel, Amnon ultimately recovered from short-term loss of sight and speech and successfully overcame his physical handicap to build a successful career and enjoy a happy family life.
The 22 men killed in the Nebbi Yusha battle were buried at the site in a common grave that has become a national monument for the heroes.
It took Amnon some 40 years and an emotional crisis to begin his emotional healing journey. At the battle’s 40th anniversary ceremony by the gravesite in 1988, Amnon delivered a eulogy for the fallen heroes, many of them his childhood friends.
Healing the Wounds of War includes thirteen original photos of the period and a documentary, I Will Not Forget This, My Friend, that can be viewed at https://vimeo.com/76179028.
Peter Yarrow, of Peter, Paul & Mary fame, wrote:
“…I am overwhelmed. I just saw your film once again and read your book once more... they have allowed me to feel and live through the most intimate encounters I've ever had with war, with the internal suffering and struggle of someone who all but died in battle, who ultimately survived, rescued by those who knew they were inviting death by attempting to do so—ultimately a triumph of love over darkness and despair…”
Alyssa R. Martina wrote:
“The tragic and ill-fated battle of Nebbi Yusha, as told by Amnon in this book, is tremendously moving and riveting. It holds a bold symbolism that parallels Amnon’s own remarkable life and reminds us to be a witness to truth while giving honor to those who have touched or helped us and even sacrificed their own lives—whether literally or figuratively—for the betterment of others. It’s a story of the indomitable pluck of the human spirit and the will to persevere and triumph even when the odds are against you. Amnon's life inspires us to seek more and never settle.”
